She lives in Indonesia.

I saw her pretty smile and brownie eyes and she sparkled, looking at me in the small picture laying on a table among so many other pictures and pamphlets. I was a new mom and my heart was blown open by the experience and I said yes, one little girl sponsored through Compassion.

I’ve loved Compassion all this time, the letters, the pictures, the sweet coloring pages that I get in the mail. When we added Andi to our family, I loved it more. Then Fadi and now Sadiki, both from Burkina Faso, a country I fell in love with through our Breakfast Drive-Thru experience last year. And we write to them and they write to us, but sometimes it still doesn’t feel quite real.

So hopefully one day I’ll meet them, one, two or all. But when I watched this video from the Phillipines, and I heard one boy with brownie eyes say the name of his sponsor with a smile on his face, it became more real.

Don’t believe the whispers that tell you that you can’t make a difference.

Don’t buy cynicism. Because people like you and organizations like Compassion are bringing God’s kingdom to every corner of the world, in the form of hot meals and warm smiles and books and crayons and love.

Today’s a day you can make a difference. Go to Compassion to find out more, and let your name be on the lips of a child like the one in this video below. Watch it. I dare you to stay cynical.
